Dubai’s public transport body, The Roads and Transport Authority, has announced plans to move forward with a new metro extension. The goal is to connect the Expo 2020 Metro Station directly to Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC).

Dubai Metro Set To Extend From Expo 2020 Station To Al Maktoum Airport

According to a report by Travel and Tour World, the three-kilometre extension will improve access to the airport’s West Terminal. Get ready for smoother travel and smoother road traffic for residents, workers, and international visitors.

This extension by Dubai RTA will handle the planning, design coordination, and full integration of the new section into the existing Dubai Metro network. The plan includes two new metro stations. The plan will include stretching from Expo 2020 Station to the West Terminal at Al Maktoum International Airport.

Al Maktoum International Airport is expanding rapidly and is expected to become the world’s largest airport once fully completed. Passenger numbers, logistics traffic, and airport staff movement will all rise sharply.

Why This Extension Changes Daily Travel

For passengers, this project brings one clear benefit: predictability. Metro rides beat traffic jams every time. A direct airport link means fewer missed flights, shorter travel times, and less stress before take-off.

For the city, the impact runs deeper. By pulling travellers away from cars and taxis, the extension will reduce congestion on major roads around Dubai South. That shift supports Dubai’s long-term push to increase public transport usage while cutting carbon emissions.

Building On The Route 2020 Success

The Route 2020 line already spans 15 kilometres and branches off the Red Line at Jebel Ali. It serves seven stations across residential, commercial, and exhibition zones. Extending it to DWC pushes the metro into one of Dubai’s fastest-growing areas.

This project fits into a much larger transport plan & RTA continues to map future metro expansions to serve new communities, economic zones, and logistics corridors.

Smart Mobility, Dubai Style

Dubai has always backed smart mobility, and this extension follows it. Integrated ticketing, smooth transfers between buses, taxis, and metro lines, and real-time travel updates all make the system easier to use for everyone.
