A Route That Quietly Disappeared
Until as recently as last week, aviation analytics firm Cirium listed the route as set to restart in January 2027, having already been suspended since late February this year amid wider disruption across Middle East aviation. That listing has now vanished entirely from the airline’s forward schedule, and Simple Flying reports it has reached out to British Airways for comment on the suspension.
The Relaunch That Never Was
According to Cirium data, BA had originally planned to relaunch Abu Dhabi flights with six services a week in each direction, operated using Boeing 787-9 and 787-10 Dreamliners. Even that plan marked a delay, since the airline had earlier expected to resume the route in late October, when the winter schedule typically begins.
Abu Dhabi Is The Odd One Out
What makes the move notable is that it goes against the broader pattern across BA’s Middle East network. Most of the airline’s other regional routes, suspended earlier this year amid regional aviation disruption, have either already resumed or are scheduled to restart in the coming months. Abu Dhabi is the clear exception, with Doha currently the only Middle Eastern city BA still serves, as the carrier’s flights to the wider region remain down sharply compared to last September.
