MENA: From Bigger Fonts To Fewer Steps, Here Are All The New Features By Uber For Seniors

Uber has launched two thoughtful new features aimed at senior riders across the Middle East and North Africa. Available now in seven countries, including the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Qatar, Bahrain, Jordan and Lebanon, Uber’s new Senior Accounts and Simple Mode are designed to make travel easier for seniors who prefer less complicated tech.

One of the standout additions is the Senior Account, which lives under the Family Profile section in the Uber app. A family member can send an SMS invite to their older loved one, who can then set up their own Uber account. Once they’re set up, seniors can book a ride by themselves or let their family member lend a hand when needed. The best part? They don’t have to live nearby. A son in Abu Dhabi can easily arrange a ride for his mum in Jeddah or Cairo without missing a beat. It’s a solid move for a region where family ties stretch across borders and generations.

The family organiser can also keep tabs on ride progress in real time. The setup offers freedom for the senior and peace of mind for the family.

Getting Around Just Got Easier For Older Adults In The Middle East

For older riders who don’t need a family profile but want an easier app experience, Uber has also rolled out Simple Mode. This new setting appears under the app’s Accessibility options and strips back the usual interface. Seniors will see larger text, fewer steps and a much more straightforward screen.

Seniors can still save their go-to places, handle payments, and keep an eye on their ride, all without needing a helping hand. It may sound simple, but it makes a world of difference, especially in places where buses are rare, pavements aren’t friendly, and the summer heat doesn’t play nice.

Uber’s Just Made Ride-Hailing A Lot More Senior-Friendly

This launch isn’t coming out of the blue. Uber tested similar updates in the US, Brazil, Chile and Mexico. The results pushed the company to bring the same support to MENA, where accessible transport for older adults is still patchy at best.

Both features also speak to Uber’s wider plan to serve different age groups more efficiently. From Teen Accounts to Senior Accounts, the app is starting to grow up with its users.
