SalamAir Launches Direct Flights To Abha To Boost Oman–Saudi Tourism

Oman’s low-cost carrier SalamAir has officially launched a new direct route between Muscat and Abha. This expansion is in light of strengthening air ties between Oman and Saudi Arabia. This will lead to easier travel between two culturally close neighbours. The move boosts Oman-Saudi tourism, giving travellers a faster, cleaner way to one of the most scenic regions.

SalamAir Launches Direct Muscat–Abha Flights

The inaugural flight took off from Muscat International Airport with diplomats, aviation officials, tourism partners, and airline leadership gathered to mark the moment. The list of dignitaries included Ibrahim Saad Ibrahim bin Bishan, Saudi Arabia’s ambassador to Oman.

On the other end, the welcome at Abha International Airport was magnificent. The landing happened in the presence of representatives from Saudi aviation authorities and tourism bodies, important because this connection is for the Asir Region.

Why Abha Matters Right Now

Abha acts as the gateway to Asir. This region is famous for misty mountains, cool weather, heritage villages, and food. It’s a sharp contrast to the desert image of Saudi Arabia. Backed by a long-term tourism vision championed by Mohammed bin Salman, Asir is positioning itself as a year-round destination rather than a seasonal escape. This new service is built for that shift.

SalamAir will fly four flights a week, which offers flexibility to travellers. The route also adds into the airline’s wider network, offering onward connections to India, the Gulf, and Salalah via Muscat.

A Smart Move For Regional Travel

The launch of this new route marks Abha as the airline’s fifth destination in Saudi Arabia, as per the press release.  This signals the airline’s steady expansion. This SalamAir route aligns with Oman Vision 2040, which places a strong focus on tourism, logistics, and cross-border connectivity for the region.

For travellers, it gives easy access to a Saudi destination with cooler climates, new festivals, and fewer layovers. All it takes is just one direct flight to Asir from Oman with SalamAir.
