Abu Dhabi Police, through a post on X, has warned residents against increasing cases of fraud schemes, which involve fake chalet and holiday retreat rental offers. These schemes increasingly target families, and the warning has been issued as part of the forces’ proactive security strategy. This development comes as there is growing concern over cybercrime tactics, which tend to exploit demand for short-term accommodation. The police mentioned how these fraudsters typically advertise chalets, holiday homes, and desert camps at prices which are significantly lower than the market prices.
How Do Scammers Lure Victims?
As revealed by the Gulf News, these attractive offers are put out so that potential victims can be lured. Once the contact is established, scammers request an advance payment or even deposits added insurance fee. All of this is done to secure bookings before they completely cut off communication and disappear. Authorities have noted that several fraudulent offers are being promoted through fake social media accounts and unverified digital platforms.
