Ever stood in the immigration queue at DXB wondering why the person next to you just breezed through a gate in seconds? Chances are, they used smart gates, and chances are, you could have too. Dubai Airport has now made it possible to check your eligibility before you even leave home through a tool called ‘Smart Gates PreCheck’.
So What Exactly Is Smart Gate Precheck At Dubai Airport?
It’s a quick scan-and-check service built into Pocket Flights, DXB’s real-time flight info platform, according to Gulf News. Instead of guessing whether you qualify for the biometric gates, you scan your passport, and the system tells you within seconds.
How To Check Your Eligibility
Here’s the whole process:
- Open dxb.pocketflights.com on your phone.
- Tap Smart Gates PreCheck.
- Open your passport to the photo page.
- Line it up in the on-screen frame and scan.
- Understand if you’re eligible almost instantly.
Already at the airport? Skip the app search entirely. QR codes are posted around the Arrivals and Departures passport control areas, and they link straight to the same tool.

If You’re Eligible, Here’s What Happens Next
Step onto the marked footprints in front of the gate. Take off sunglasses, hats, masks, and literally anything covering your face. Look at the camera, focus on the green light, and let the system verify your biometric data. The gate opens on its own, minus any human intervention.

Do You Need To Register In Advance?
Not necessarily. If you’ve flown through DXB recently, there’s a decent chance you were already enrolled during that immigration process without even realising it. You can also double-check your registration status on the GDRFA Dubai website, under Inquiry for Smart Gate Registration, using either your Emirates ID or your passport number and nationality.
Who’s eligible? UAE nationals and residents, GCC nationals, visa-on-arrival visitors, Schengen-area travellers, holders of pre-issued UAE visas, and returning tourists with biometric passports. It’s worth checking before your next trip; it could save you the queue entirely.
