Dubai Roads and Transport Authority announced on January 11th that it has opened Phase 1 of the Hessa Street Development Project. Enhancing the traffic flow, here’s all you need to know about the development that’s going to make commuters on this route smile with relief.

Phase 1 Of Hessa Street Development Project Opens

Reducing traffic for the people commuting on this road, Phase 1 of the Hessa Street Development Project has finally opened. Extending over a length of about 4.5 km, it is perfect for those travelling from Al Khail Road, Hessa Street and onwards to the Sheikh Zayed Road. With the overall project completion reaching 90%, the remaining works now include roadwork, bridges, intersection improvements, and cycling tracks, which are expected to be completed by the second quarter of this year.

What Does This Opening Entail?

Talking about the newly opened phase, this includes widening of the Hessa Street to four lanes in each direction. Yes, besides this, there is also the opening of new bridges at intersections. This upgrade has been designed in such a way that it significantly enhances the traffic flow for motorists who are travelling towards the Sheikh Zayed Road. With the road surrounding the residential and commercial areas, the overall completion of the AED690 million project has reached 90 per cent.

It Will Increase Road Capacity

A major infrastructure scheme, it serves several areas, which include Al Sufouh 2, Al Barsha and Jumeirah Village Circle. With the populations in these areas expected to exceed 6,40,000 by 2030, the road development will double the traffic capacity from 8,000 vehicles per hour to 16,000 vehicles per hour in both directions.

Finally, it’s worth mentioning that, in addition to cycling and scooter tracks, the project places a strong emphasis on sustainable mobility. Yes, with a dedicated 13.5 km cycling and scooter track, the 4.5 m wide road is being developed in such a way that it links also Al Sufouh with Dubai Hills through Hessa Street.
