Egypt has made a strong move towards better tourism. The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities has launched a new online ticketing system for the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM). The goal is to make it easier, faster, and safer to buy tickets.

Egypt Starts A New Ticketing Service For The Grand Egyptian Museum

The new platform makes the booking process shorter, with fewer steps. A tidier layout, less back and forth. People can now book tickets without having to go through a lot of menus or wonder if they’re doing it right.

Officials say that the system meets modern standards for user experience. To put it simply, it seems easier to use. That matters, especially for people from other countries who just want to buy tickets without any problems.

The platform is already live at: https://tickets.gem.eg

Crackdown On Fake Websites

This upgrade is not just for your comfort. It’s also about having faith.

Ahmed Ghoneim, the head of the GEM Authority, said that there are more and more fake websites that look like official ticket sellers. Some of these sites have been selling fake tickets, which puts visitors in danger.

In response, officials are telling everyone only to use the official booking link. No third-party sites or shortcuts.

Why The Change?

Mohamed Shaaban, the ministry’s Digital Services Advisor, talked about the bigger change. A lot of fake platforms were using commercial domains like “.com” to look real. That made things unclear.

Instead, the new system uses Egypt’s national “.eg” domain. It’s backed by the government and much harder to misuse. That alone makes it more trustworthy and safe.

This Is Cairo says that this move is a direct response to repeated attempts at fraud and is meant to stop them at the source.

The Old Website Still Works For Now

There is a transition window for people who are used to the old platform (visit-gem.com). For a short time, both sites will be open at the same time.

After that, the old site will be completely taken down. There will be redirects and cross-links between both platforms to make the switch easier for users. No one gets stuck in the middle of a booking.

A Bigger Push for Digital

This isn’t a one-time upgrade. It’s part of Egypt’s bigger plan to change tourism through technology.

The Grand Egyptian Museum is going to be one of the biggest cultural attractions in the world, so the country is clearly putting money into the whole experience, from booking tickets online to visiting in person.

And if this platform works as it should, visitors won’t even notice the technology. They’ll just see how easy everything is.
