From the UAE to Saudi Arabia, GCC countries have announced Ramadan 1447. Yes, Ramadan has officially begun as of today, February 18th, Wednesday. This follows after the official crescent moon sighting, which took place on Tuesday, February 17th.
Ramadan Begins In Middle East Countries
GCC countries, including those of the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, and Bahrain, have announced the first day of Ramadan. Wednesday, February 18th, marks the start of this holy month after the crescent moon sighting took place. The communities across different countries participated in sighting the crescent that marks the beginning of the holy month. Not to mention, preparations have also begun for the month-long fasting, prayer, and reflection.
Importance Of Ramadan
Ramadan, as you are already aware, is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar. It is regarded as the holiest month of the year, and it is the time when the revelation of the Quran to the Prophet Mohammad happened. It is expected that Ramadan may last for 29 or 30 days, depending on the crescent moon sighting.
According to the astronomical forecast from Dubai, this year, it is expected that Ramadan may be a 29-day month. It is expected that Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of the month, may begin on Friday, March 20th. However, this is all according to astronomical predictions, and the definitive day for Eid celebrations will only be revealed after the crescent moon sighting.

When Will South Asian Countries celebrate Ramadan?
While countries in the Middle East begin Ramadan on February 18th, several countries in South Asia and MENA will begin fasting on February 19th, Thursday. For them, the first day of the holy month begins the next day.
