1. Sharjah Approves AED44.5 Billion General Budget For 2026
As revealed by the Gulf News, Sharjah has approved an AED44.5 billion for the general budget. This is for 2026 and has set out a measured but expansive spending plan. With the aim of prioritising infrastructure, economic competitiveness and social stability, it responds to a more uncertain, global backdrop of inflation, geopolitical strain, and higher interest rates. As it happens, it was approved by His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, who is the Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah.
2. Sugar Conformity Certificate Mandatory From January 1st
As the new tax comes into effect, it will become mandatory for all producers, importers, and stockpilers to procure a sugar conformity certificate. Yes, if they do not do so, they risk their product being taxed at the highest excise rate. This was confirmed by the federal tax authority on Monday, December 29th.
3. Hegra After Dark Showcases AlUla’s History
Hegra After Dark is an interactive cultural event which is showcasing the history of AlUla through the ages. Yes, featuring live performances, storytelling, and diverse flavours, it highlights the history of this destination in Saudi Arabia. This year, the event has returned with a reimagined format. With an innovative interactive setting, it uncovers daily life and the numbering.
4. Four-Day Weekend In January For Oman
Oman has announced that there will be a four-day weekend in January 2026. After all, two public holidays conveniently fall around the weekend. Yes, Thursday, January 15th is the Sultan’s Accession Day, while Al Isra’ wal Mi’raj is on Sunday, January 18th. Combined by a regular weekend on Friday and Saturday, it is going to be a continuous four-day break.

5. North Of Makkah Transformed Into Green Landscape
