As Dubai moves towards a future that is Greener, e-scooters have become a big part of the Emirate. Whether it’s in Dubai Marina or maybe you’re bridging the gap between your home and the office, these vehicles can be found everywhere. With the surge in popularity, there are some important rules that people need to take care of while driving them.
Dubai RTA Reminds People About E-Scooter Safety Guidelines
Although these scooters are becoming massively popular, the Dubai RTA has been actively reminding people about the safety guidelines. Yes, as mentioned in the report of The Times of India, it was revealed that these rules have been introduced to reduce accidents and ensure that everybody shares the road and path responsibility.
A Look At The Guidelines
Take a look at these important safety guidelines:
- Riders should ensure that they follow the posted speed limit and stay in the designated scooter or shared lanes.
- Helmets must be worn, and they have been advised to wear bright and reflective clothing in order to stay visible.
- Scooters must remain at a safe distance from pedestrian bicycles and other riders on the road.
- Safety Requirements For Carrying Them In Public Transport
As it happens, one of the most practical changes happens to be how e-scooters interact with the mass-transit system in Dubai. As it happens, the safety requirements have been outlined for carrying e-scooters in public transport. These are as follows:
- The e-scooter must be clean and dry. Not to mention, they must be folded before boarding the public transport vehicle.
- These can only be stored in designated areas, and they must be securely mobilised during travel.
- A maximum of only two scooters per journey is allowed in order to avoid crowding and obstruction.
- Certain modes, like intercity buses, do not allow e-scooters.

E-Scooters Must Be Carried Responsibly
These rules have been reinforced so that e-scooters, although a flexible transport mode, must be carried responsibly. As it happens, not following them has clear penalties, so that there is compliance. For instance, riding one without a permit or outside a designated zone can lead to a fine of AED200 to 300. Not wearing a helmet or riding on a jogging path, or even ignoring the speed limit, can result in fines. Although they have become a visible symbol of micro-mobility in the emirate, fines are a part of the broader effort of keeping micro-mobility safe.
