King Khalid International Airport is operated by the Riyadh Airports Company. However, it’s all set to undergo a major strategic transformation. The implementation of the strategic transformation plan will begin in the first quarter of 2026, as announced on Saturday, November 29th. The aim is to increase efficiency while also making the experience for travellers a lot more seamless.
Riyadh Airports Company To Undertake Major Transformations
As mentioned in an Arab News report, the airport will see its first comprehensive overhaul since it was opened more than 40 years ago. This initiative is truly one of the most prominent projects, which underpins the strategic vision of Riyadh Airport. With operational and organisational changes that have been designed to boost capacity, sufficiency, and improve passenger experience, the major overhaul will truly define the passenger experience once it is completed.
What Would The New Layout Entail?
This includes a large-scale operational transfer, which would be between existing terminals. As it happens, it would be redesigned to reflect their identity ever since the airport’s inauguration. Under the new layout, Terminal 5 will be solely dedicated to international flights, which are operated by foreign airlines. Additionally, Terminal 3 and Terminal 4 would serve domestic flights. Finally, Terminal 1 and 2 will continue to help international flights that are operated by the national airline.

How Would the Reallocation Help?
Riyadh Airports mentioned how reallocation will increase the terminal capacity, thereby improving the flow and reducing waiting times and connection times. As a result, it would contribute to a higher service quality and a smoother travel experience. However, the exact date for operational transfer will be announced once it’s fully ready and has been confirmed across all airport sectors and airlines. The strategy includes a broader package of development initiatives, which aim to improve operational efficiency and even raise service standards.
With the aim of elevating passenger service at the airport, this major transformation is truly something that could change the face of travel in the capital airport.
