Oman’s Jebel Shams Records -0.1 Degrees Celsius As Temperatures Fall Below Freezing Point!

In Oman, the temperature had dropped below freezing in the past 24 hours. In fact, Jebel Shams recorded -0.1°C as per data from the civil aviation authorities’ meteorological stations. The reading was from the highest peak of the country, and here’s all you need to know about the temperature, which dropped below freezing.

Jebel Shams Records -0.1°C

Recently, the readings from the country’s Jebel Shams recorded -0.1°C. As revealed in a report of the Oman Observer, this comes at a time when Oman is experiencing a significant drop in temperatures over the past 24 hours. As revealed further in the Gulf News, the temperatures were recorded on Tuesday, January 20th. This highlights the intensity of the cold wave, which is currently affecting several parts of the internet. It is especially affecting elevated areas and the highest peak in the country, which often records low temperatures during the winter months. But readings below zero are relatively rare for the area.

Other Elevated Places Also Recorded Low Temperatures

In another report, Gulf News mentions that Jebel Shams, which is the Mountain of the Sun, is located in the Al Hajar mountain range. Located in Northern Oman, and it is a popular destination for tourists and nature enthusiasts. Not only this, but other mountain areas are also experiencing cold conditions. Saiq, which is another high altitude settlement in the Al Hajar mountain, is known for its terrace farms, it recorded 4.8°C. Yanqul, which is situated in the foothills, saw temperature drops to 9.5°C, and Dhank registered 12.4°C.

Other Temperatures That Were Located

Haima also recorded 11.4°C while the ancient town of Bahla saw 12.3°C. The winter chill was also felt in the desert region of Central Muscat. It recorded 11°C, and Fahud registered 11.5°C. As such, this seasonal cold snap is typical for the winter months in Oman. After all, the mountain regions regularly experience freezing or near-freezing temperatures.
