The UAE has been buzzing with weather updates. With different emirates hit by unstable weather conditions, this is expected to continue until midweek, as per NCM predictions. Keeping the safety of people in mind, several measures are being taken to ensure people can remain safe.
UAE Weather Updates
1. Remote Working Announced In Ras Al Khaimah
After Dubai, Ras Al Khaimah has also announced that employees across government departments, authorities, and institutions can work remotely. They’ve been advised to do so due to unstable weather conditions that are affecting the UAE. Not just RAK, but Fujairah has also announced remote work for government staff amid storms.
2. Flights Affected In The UAE
Due to the heavy thunderstorm, authorities have urged residents to stay indoors. And this weather has also affected flights. Yes, several Emirates and flydubai flights have been cancelled or rescheduled.
3. Road Closures Announced In Umm Al Quwwain
Umm Al Quwwain Police have announced temporary closures of two exits. These are on the Sheikh Mohammad bin Zayed Road, as there are unstable weather conditions on the roads have been asked to take extra caution while driving and to adhere to the traffic guidelines so that safety can be prioritised.
4. Global Village Closed In Dubai
As announced by the Dubai Media Office, Global Village has been closed on Thursday, December 18th. This closure is to remain in place until further notice, and it has been put in place due to unstable conditions. Not only this, but the Hatta Festival has also been closed due to the weather conditions.
5. Abu Dhabi Parks And Beaches Closed
Abu Dhabi City Municipality has also announced that all the beaches under its management will be temporarily closed. As a result, visitors and residents have been advised to avoid these areas until the conditions improve.
6. Food Delivery Temporarily Paused
Food delivery has been temporarily paused in the UAE due to adverse weather conditions. This has disrupted the road and visibility, so the decision has been taken to ensure the safety of riders. Major platforms such as Talabat, Keeta, and Careem have restricted their operations in several areas.
7. Public Beaches Closed In Dubai
Dubai Municipality has warned people to stay clear of the beach and to stay away from it. Due to the adverse weather conditions, the public beaches have been closed in the emirate. After all, the safety of the people is paramount.
8. Heavy Rain Waterlogs Sharjah Streets
In Sharja, as per the report of the Gulf News, heavy rain has flooded the Khalidiya (Al Majaz-3) and Al Estiqlal streets. As a result, the neighbourhood has been submerged under water following heavy rainfall, as per the videos being circulated on social media, as reported by the news outlet.

9. RTA Suspends Intercity Buses To Ajman And Sharjah
The Dubai RTA has announced that intercity buses are temporarily suspended to and from Ajman and Sharjah. This suspension is in place until further notice; after all, public safety is a major priority at the moment.
10. Private Schools Advised To Avoid Outdoor Activities
The KHDA has asked private educational institutions in Dubai to take extra precautions. Yes, for the coming days, they’ve asked them to avoid any outdoor activities.
Finally, it’s worth mentioning that the forecast for the weekend says that Saturday will be cloudy at times with there being some rainfall over coastal, northern, and Eastern areas. While it’s expected to be partly cloudy with low clouds over islands on Sunday. According to the forecast, it is expected that similar conditions may continue until Tuesday, December 23rd. However, residents has been advised to stay updated with the official alerts and to avoid any flood-prone area.
