Most of us click links fast, thoughtlessly, which sometimes leads to a dangerous decision. The UAE Cyber Security Council wants you to slow down on mindless clicking of links because not every website is safe and can be fake. Scammers have become experts at mimicking the real thing. You won’t even notice that one swapped letter, which can lead you to handing over your data to some stranger sitting there to take away your money.
UAE Issues Warning On Spotting Fake Websites

Don’t fall for it. Look closer, spot the red flags, and protect your data.

So, how to spot the real website? According to a report by Gulf Today, a legit website always comes with small but powerful clues. Here are some common factors to check before announcing a site is secure.
- Misspellings
- weird domain endings
- missing padlock icons
- URL doesn’t start with HTTPS
These are some red flags to spot on such scam websites. While HTTP sends your data out like a public announcement, HTTPS locks it up before it ever leaves your browser.
The Council also highlighted a handy tool: the official StaySafe portal at https://staysafe.csc.gov.ae.
Your Browser Isn’t Invincible
Even your browser, that faithful window to the web, can become a liability. Outdated versions, weak privacy settings, or shady extensions can crack open your digital walls. That’s how leaks, data theft, and unauthorised access go without your notice.
How to solve this? All you have to do is update your browser regularly, clear cookies and cache often, and avoid public Wi-Fi. Also, private browsing mode helps limit who’s tracking you online.

Smart Choices = Safe Surfing
The council is basically saying safety starts with you. Our phones now hold everything from Emirates ID details to banking apps and one wrong click on a strange link can spill more than just your browsing history.
So before tapping that link or scanning a random QR code, pause. Ensure those are safe before paying or even browsing. When in doubt, close the tab and double-check. It’s better to lose a few seconds than risk money and important documents.
UAE warns residents about the traps that are disguised as convenience. All you have to do is maintain caution and scroll safely without falling for the fake ones.
