Drivers across the UAE woke up to a fog warning that could have cut visibility to zero in some areas. The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) said fog may form over some coastal and inland areas from 10.30pm on Monday, 5 October, until 9am on Tuesday, 6 October.

Fog Warning For Coastal And Inland Areas

Where fog develops, horizontal visibility is expected to drop sharply and could disappear altogether in places. The humid overnight conditions that have been building across the country continue to favour fog and mist.

Abu Dhabi Police have urged motorists to take extra care while visibility is poor. Drivers should follow the changing speed limits shown on electronic information boards, which are updated to reflect conditions on the road.

Rain Possible On Tuesday Afternoon

Once the fog clears, Tuesday is forecast to be generally fair to partly cloudy. The NCM said convective clouds may develop during the afternoon over eastern and southern areas, and those clouds could bring rain.

Another Chance Of Fog On Wednesday Morning

Conditions are expected to turn humid again on Tuesday night and into Wednesday morning over some coastal and inland areas. That creates another chance of fog or mist, so early commuters should be prepared for reduced visibility on Wednesday too.

What’s The Update On Winds And Seas?

Expect winds to be light to moderate. They will be mostly blowing from the south-east to north-west at 10 to 25km/h. It could simply reach up to 40km/h at times and can occasionally throw dust.

The Arabian Gulf is expected to remain slight. High tides are due at 11.37am and 9.04pm, with low tides at 4.38am and 3.16pm. The Oman Sea will also stay slight, with high tides at 7.15am and 6.19pm and low tides at 12.41am and 12.36pm.

Tips For Driving Safely In Fog

If driving in fog, slow down and increase the distance between you and the vehicle in front of you. Turn on your low beams and fog lights, and avoid hard braking. Don’t use high beams, which reflect off fog and reduce visibility. Check the electronic boards for updated speed limits, and if conditions become too dangerous, pull over safely and wait until it improves.

Allow extra time for your journey, and avoid overtaking or changing lanes unless you have to.

Fog is a regular feature of UAE mornings once humidity rises and temperatures begin to drop, so it’s worth keeping these habits in mind through the coming days. Gulf News has noted that cooler weather brings the season of morning fog back, so early starts can catch drivers out even when the day itself turns out fair.
