The fire began around 1:14 am and quickly spread through the restaurant. The flames originated in the tandoor, a traditional clay oven used for cooking kebabs. According to reports, the fire spread when a temporary shed in the restaurant caught fire. The shed, made of flammable materials, fuelled the blaze, making it difficult to control in the early stages.
Mumbai’s fire brigade responded swiftly to the emergency call. Firefighters arrived on the scene and worked diligently to contain the flames. By 1:38 am, the fire was brought under control. Their quick action prevented further damage to nearby properties. However, Miyan Kebabs was significantly damaged by the blaze, with much of the restaurant gutted by the fire.

The cause of the fire was identified as a short circuit in the restaurant’s electrical system. BMC’s disaster control department later confirmed that the fire had originated in the tandoor. The combination of the electrical malfunction and the restaurant’s temporary structure contributed to the fire’s rapid spread.
Local authorities are now investigating the incident. They are looking into whether the restaurant adhered to fire safety regulations. The incident has raised concerns about the safety of temporary structures and the risk they pose during emergencies. Many restaurants in Mumbai use makeshift sheds to accommodate additional customers, which could increase fire hazards.
Bandra West is a bustling area filled with restaurants, shops, and residential buildings. The fire at Miyan Kebabs has drawn attention to the importance of fire safety in such densely populated regions. Residents and business owners have been urged to check their electrical systems and ensure that they comply with safety standards.
Though the fire caused significant damage to the restaurant, the absence of injuries was a relief for all involved. The fire brigade’s swift response played a critical role in preventing a more serious disaster. Miyan Kebabs remains closed for repairs, and authorities are continuing their investigation to prevent future incidents.
