Mild Tremors Felt In Karnataka’s Bidar District; Measured 1.9 & 2.1 On Richter Scale

Karnataka recently experienced mild tremors in its Bidar district. These tremors were mild and no damages have been reported so far. The tremors of the earthquake were felt in the region today. On October 3, Friday, Nepal, too, experienced an earthquake. That one, however, was much more severe. The earthquake ended up causing significant damage. Here are all the details that you need to know about the earthquake in Karnataka.

Mild Tremors Felt In Karnataka’s Bidar District

Today, the Bidar district in the Indian state of Karnataka felt mild tremors. Two earthquakes of low intensity were reported by the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre or the KSNDMC. One was measured to be 1.9 magnitudes on the Richter Scale and the other was measured to be 2.1 magnitudes.

According to an article recently published by The Indian Express, though the intensity of the earthquakes was low, their tremors must have been felt 25 kilometres away from the epicentre. The epicentres of both earthquakes were located 1.7 kilometres north of the northeast of the Waddankera village. So far, no reports of damage or loss of lives have been reported.

The first earthquake took place at 4:22 in the morning and the second one followed shortly after at 6:04 AM. Recently, Nepal was rocked by a huge earthquake that ended up causing significant damage. The earthquake took place on October 4, Saturday and measured a whopping 6.4 magnitudes on the Richter scale.

Earthquake In Nepal Causes Significant Damage

The earthquake in Nepal was truly tragic as more than 120 people lost their lives and many were injured. Significant damage to infrastructure was also caused by the earthquake. What is more, this particular earthquake was so intense that its tremors were felt till Delhi. The US Geological Survey classified the earthquake as shallow.

This means that the earthquake’s epicentre was located closer to the earth’s surface. Social Media was flooded with pictures and videos showcasing the havoc wreaked in the region because of the quakes. Videos of people running away from crumbling buildings and people sorting through rubble in order to search for victims abound.

Many notable people posted on X (formerly known as Twitter) and sent their condolences to the people of Nepal who were affected by the natural calamity. Nepal has had a history of earthquakes and this is not the first time a major earthquake has struck the region. In 2015, two cataclysmic earthquakes claimed the lives of more than 9,000 people and left more than 22,000 people injured.
