As the Hajj pilgrimage concluded in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Muslims around the world were celebrating Eid al-Adha. And this year, millions of people visited the sacred sites in Mecca to complete their mandatory religious pilgrimage. For those who are aware, Hajj is a religious duty that must be performed at least once by Muslims, if they are physically and financially capable. And it seems that more than 1.8 million performed this sacred duty for Hajj season 1445H.

Hajj Season Welcomes Over 1.8 M Pilgrims

This Hajj season, the total number of pilgrims that performed Hajj were 1,833,164. Yes, this massive figure included both male and female pilgrims. This means they arrived to perform this sacred religious duty in large numbers. As revealed by the official website of the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, it was mentioned that these included pilgrims who came from abroad by the ports of entry. Yes, people arriving via seaport included 4,714 pilgrims, land crossings included 60,251 male and female pilgrims, and the airport included 15,46,345 male and female pilgrims.

The Numbers Included People From Different Countries

As it happens, as per the figures revealed by the ministry, it also mentioned the percentage of pilgrims coming from different countries. The Arab countries constituted 22.3% while Asian countries, which excluded Arab countries included 63.3%. As it happens, 11.3% of the people were from African countries that were not included in the Arab countries. Additionally, 3.2% of people came from European countries, North and South America, and Australia. At this point, it’s worth mentioning that 3,22,901 pilgrims benefited from the Mecca Route Initiative.

These figures are hardly surprising, as many people want to perform this religious duty if they can do so. An important part of a Muslim’s belief, every ritual signifies something profound. Not to mention, the authorities in Saudi Arabia are also constantly trying to make the process of this pilgrimage better for believers.
