200 Workers Perform Umrah For Free
For labour workers is a noble initiative that aims to help labourers realise the dream of performing Umrah. Started by a Saudi expatriate, this project has already helped workers. Since April 2024, the initiative has already sent five buses comprising 49 labourers per bus, which means that till August 3, 211 blue-collar workers from Dubai have been given a chance to perform Umrah. As revealed in a report by Khaleej Times, Sophia Sarah Addas who is the founder of this project recognised that these people often lacked the means to fulfil this important religious duty. So, offering them this opportunity could have a profound impact on their lives and faith.

Today, her initiative has gained quite a momentum and she has also begun reaching out to other workers. Offering them once in a lifetime opportunity to undertake this religious duty, the response has truly been overwhelming. Yes, workers from a variety of backgrounds and industries have expressed their immense gratitude and excitement. Several of them who chose initiative were overwhelmed with emotion and appreciation. As it happens, this Umrah pilgrimage lasts eight days with two nights in Madina and three nights spent in Makkah. The 24-hour journey allows the workers to truly revel in their religious duty.
However, it’s worth noting that the criteria for workers to be eligible for this program is quite simple. They must have a salary between AED2000 to AED2500 and the package which costs AED1500 per person is offered by a willing person who wishes to gift this to a labourer. The package includes everything from visa processing and medical insurance to accommodation and meals.
