More Than 50 G20 VVIPs Will Alight Near Delhi Airport’s T1 And Will Drive To Their Hotels

The G20 Summit in New Delhi will officially begin in two days. World leaders like US President Joe Biden, French President Emmanuel Macron, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and other G20 VVIPs will arrive at the Delhi Airport’s Terminal 1. For the summit, more than 50 jets would land at the airport.

According to government sources, three ceremonial lounges have been set up to host heads of state and other VIPs. The formalities will be completed at these lounges by the concerned teams with the heads of nations and other delegates. After which, they can leave the airport from the technical area without obstructing the flow of regular passengers.

An official stated that the VIPs will land at the technical airport, but aircraft and private jets carrying them will be parked at the Delhi airport. Further, special arrangements have been made to park the Air Force One and a few other significant aircraft at the Palam Air Force Station.

According to several sources, this decision was made to prevent nose-to-tail jams of planes in the technical area waiting to drop off dignitaries and due to the enormous number of VVIP planes—nearly 50 are anticipated for the summit. This procedure has been developed to handle the largest assembly of the most powerful people in the world in India.

With a few exceptions, this is done to prevent instances in which aircraft drop off VVIPs in the Palam Technical Area and subsequently must cross the active runway 27 while heading to their assigned parking stands. According to a Times Of India report, pilots flying VVIPS can choose either 27 or 28 (both heading towards the Dwarka side of the Northern Access Road) and then easily travel to the shared drop-off location without having to cross an operational airfield.

From a security standpoint, vehicles coming for dignitaries are properly sanitised. VVIPs will use step ladders to exit at the middle common area, and they will be taken in motorcades to their hotels, an official added. The two runways on the Gurgaon side of the Northern Access Road will be available.

However, it is unlikely that VVIP aircraft will choose them because of the distance from the technical area and the lengthy taxi time there.
