Mumbai Coastal Road: Worli-Marine Drive Stretch To Be Inaugurated Today; All You Need To Know

Phase 1 of the Mumbai Coastal Road Project is all set to open for traffic today. The road project promises to ease traffic congestion and make travelling between Worli and Marine Drive quicker than ever. Officially named ‘Dharamveer Swarajya Rakshak Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj Marg,’ the road will allow two-wheelers and public buses. Here are all of the important details that you would need to know about this phase of the coastal project.

Mumbai Coastal Road: Worli-Marine Drive Stretch Opens Today

The carriageway being inaugurated today is southbound from Worli To Marine Drive. According to an article which was recently published by News18, once it is open, motorists can enter from the Haji Ali Interchange at Worli and exit at the Amarsons Interchange at Marine Drive.

Other entry points include Bindu Madhav Thackeray Junction, Amarsons Garden, Rajani Patel Junction or Lotus Interchange. The other exit point than Amarsons is the Princess Street Bridge.

It stretches across 10.5 kilometres and will also have a tunnel with three lanes. The rest of the road has four lanes. It is important to note that stopping vehicles on the bridge to take pictures is strictly prohibited.

From Vehicle Restrictions To Timings; All You Need To Know

Since the rest of the bridge is still under construction, traffic will only be allowed from 6 AM to 8 PM between Monday and Friday. Furthermore, heavy vehicles, with the exception of BEST Buses and public transportation, will not be allowed on the bridge.

This includes trucks, trailers, mixers, etc. Additionally, three-wheelers like rickshaws are also not allowed. Handcarts and animal-drawn carts are also disallowed. Two-wheelers though, are permitted on the road. 

The speed limit on the road is 80 kilometres per hour and in the tunnel, it’s 60 kilometres per hour. At entry and exit points it is 40 kilometres per hour.
