Mumbai Faces October Heat With Low Visibility And Poor AQI While IMD Predicts Heavy Rainfall for Northeast and Southern States

Mumbai October Heat

Mumbai is grappling with intense October heat. On Tuesday, the city experienced soaring temperatures and unbearable humidity. The weather offered no respite, and conditions are expected to stay similar. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts minimal to no rainfall for Mumbai in the coming days.

Mumbai Faces October Heat With Low Visibility

The notorious October heat is hitting Mumbai hard. With clear skies, the sun is heating up the land quickly, resulting in unusually high temperatures. The IMD’s Santacruz station recorded 33.5°C on Tuesday—1.2 degrees above normal. The next few days could see temperatures hovering between 32°C and 34°C, with a slight possibility of light drizzle.

Residents, especially those on higher floors, woke up to almost zero visibility. Poor air quality and high humidity added to the discomfort. Even Thane was no exception, experiencing similar weather conditions. While Mumbai suffers from oppressive heat, other parts of the country are experiencing different weather patterns.

The northeast is set to receive widespread light to moderate rainfall this week. The Andaman & Nicobar Islands will also see moderate showers. Bihar, West Bengal, and Sikkim are expected to witness scattered to widespread rainfall. Jharkhand and Odisha could also see isolated to scattered rainfall.

Rainfall In Other Indian Regions

Heavy rainfall is expected today in some parts of northeast India, particularly Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim. Gangetic West Bengal will receive heavy showers on October 4. Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura are likely to experience isolated heavy rainfall from October 6 to 8. Delhi will enjoy mainly clear skies this week.

The southern states are in for some relief from the heat, with rainfall expected across the region. Kerala and Mahe, South Interior Karnataka, and Lakshadweep will see widespread light to moderate showers throughout the week. Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Coastal Karnataka, and North Interior Karnataka will also receive scattered rainfall.

The IMD bulletin also indicates that temperatures may rise further early next week. With no considerable rainfall predicted, Mumbaikars will have to brace for more heat and humidity. Mumbai residents experienced poor visibility, high humidity, and a dip in air quality. Many people, particularly those staying on higher floors, woke up to zero visibility. The heat coupled with a poor air quality index (AQI) has made life difficult.

The IMD has stated that no significant rainfall is expected in the northwest and west regions of India over the next week. This could mean more dry and warm conditions for areas already dealing with heat.
