The Mumbai Coastal Road Project or the MCRP has reached a pivotal milestone with the installation of a bridge spanning 60 metres, marking a significant step towards the project’s full operational status. On Wednesday at 11:30 AM, engineers completed the final bridge connection, linking the northbound road section to the Bandra-Worli Sea Link or the BWSL. Here are all of the important details that you would need to know about this new bridge.

According to an article which was recently published by the Hindustan Times or the HT, 93 per cent of the project has been completed. Both northbound and southbound connectors to the Sea Link are now in place. Municipal officials have confirmed that the road will be open for public use from January, connecting BWSL to Marine Drive.
The project’s recent progress includes several key achievements. On November 5 the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation or the BMC successfully installed a girder spanning 44 metres. It was a part of the final two-bridge sections connecting the northbound carriageway.
The 120-metre arch bridge and its 46-metre connecting span were finalised in April this year. The project’s phased opening began with the southern arm from Worli to Marine Drive on March 12, followed by the northern arm from Marine Drive to Haji Ali on June 10.

A further 3.5-kilometre stretch from Haji Ali to Abdul Gaffer Khan was inaugurated on July 11. The southbound carriageway, connecting Marine Drive to the Sea Link, was opened to traffic on September 13. With the recent installation of the 60-metre steel girder, the project has entered its final phase of completion.
A civic official from the coastal road department stated that the final side of the arch bridge connecting to the Sea Link will be opened to the public in January, marking a significant improvement in Mumbai’s urban infrastructure and transportation network.
The project represents a crucial development in Mumbai’s ongoing efforts to enhance urban connectivity and reduce traffic congestion along the city’s coastal regions.
