Passion Cuisine has introduced Mumbai to the authentic flavours of Lebanon with the opening of the first Zaatar W Zeit outlet in India in Mumbai. Established in Lebanon in 1999, this urban casual eatery has gained international acclaim for its fresh, flavourful Lebanese offerings.

Mumbai Gets Its 1st Zaatar W Zeit Outlet

The brand, whose name translates to “Za’atar and Olive Oil” in Arabic, has built its reputation on signature dishes like za’atar manakeesh — a flatbread topped with aromatic spice blends. Beyond this speciality, the menu showcases the depth of Lebanese cuisine through traditional options like Jebneh and Lahmeh bi Ajjine.

The menu of Zaatar W Zeit also features popular shawarmas and vegetarian selections, including Brown Baked Falafel and Light Halloumi wraps. Passion Cuisine’s leadership was inspired to bring the brand to India after experiencing its authentic offerings in Dubai.

They recognised an opportunity to expand Mumbaikars’ understanding of Lebanese cuisine beyond familiar staples like hummus and falafel. The restaurant maintains authenticity by sourcing spices directly from Lebanon, focusing on fresh vegetables, handmade bread and wholesome ingredients.

Chef Sarfaraz Ahmed, Corporate Chef for Passion F&B India, emphasises that while Lebanese cuisine is often perceived as milder than Indian food, Zaatar W Zeit aims to showcase its true depth and variety. The menu extends beyond savoury options to include indulgent desserts such as Z Knefeh, Chocolate Lava cake and Nutella & Banana manakeesh.

This Mumbai launch represents part of Zaatar W Zeit’s global expansion strategy. The brand currently operates 26 branches in Lebanon and approximately 70 locations internationally, including outlets as far as Vancouver, Canada.

Passion Cuisine, which brings extensive experience in the Indian culinary landscape, owns several successful restaurants across the UAE and India. Their portfolio includes notable establishments such as Avatara, Trèsind, Carnival by Trèsind, Trèsind Studio and Maison De Curry.
