Mumbai airport is one of the busiest ones in the world. The Mumbai International Airport, officially known as Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, is a crossover runway airport. Hence, the crowd is evident. But, on 10th December 2022, the airport saw a massive traveller transit and managed to handle it efficiently.
Mumbai International Airport Makes A Record
The Mumbai International Airport experienced a crowd of travellers totalling up to 1,50,988 passengers. This has been the highest count of passengers since the COVID-19 pandemic. In the past, the airport achieved 1,52,562 passenger traffic in a single day in 2017. While in 2018, the traffic was 1,56,329. However, the passenger count had dropped severely during the pandemic, yet it recorded 73,509 in February 2021.
The 10th December traffic included 39,547 international travellers while 1,11,441 were domestic travellers. According to the Airport Authority Of India, there were 2,798 flights with a count of 4,14,114 passengers travelling within the national boundaries and domestic travel. However, the total count of flights was 5,586, along with 8,27,429 passengers on board.
Digi Yatri Soon On CSMIA
The good news is that Digi Yatri’s Facial Recognition System will start operating at airport Terminal 2. Moreover, the system will work from 8:30 am in the morning to 5:30 pm in the evening, as those are the peak hours for travellers to commute. This will help traffic be more manageable. The Civil Aviation department is looking after the Digi Yatri installment project. The aim is to make travelling a seamless experience for the passengers.
