Located on railway land near the goods shed between Ram Mandir and Jogeshwari stations, the new terminus is a key project under the Amrit Bharat Station Development Scheme. The Western Railway (WR) is overseeing this ambitious build.

The new terminus will alleviate pressure on Mumbai Central, Dadar, and Bandra Terminus by shifting express and mail trains to Jogeshwari. This move will streamline rail operations across the city. Suburban passengers will benefit from better access to long-distance trains. Local train punctuality between Andheri and Churchgate is expected to improve.

For years, Mumbai’s historic stations, including Mumbai Central, Bandra, and Dadar Terminus, have served long-distance trains. Despite numerous upgrades, no new terminal was built to complement these stations. The Jogeshwari terminus aims to fill this gap.

The construction scope is extensive. It includes three high-level platforms: one island platform and one home platform. Additionally, the project features a G+2 service building and a G+3 station building. The terminus will have three electrified coaching lines, each about 4 km long. A circulating area and roadworks are also part of the project.

Giriraj Civil Developers Ltd is the contractor for this ₹70 crore project. Financial progress stands at 34%. The terminus will enhance connectivity for up to 12 long-distance trains currently operating from Bandra Terminus and Mumbai Central. This shift will benefit commuters from distant suburbs.

The new terminus will accommodate mail and express trains with up to 24 coaches. It will also improve local train punctuality, with better regulation between Andheri and Churchgate. The terminus’s location near Metro Line 7, Line 2A, and the upcoming Metro Line 6 will make it easier for commuters to access long-distance trains.
