If you’re someone who travels by train daily, you know how crucial they are to life in this metropolitan city. Despite its many flaws, you cannot deny that there is some order in its chaos, some method in the madness that is the Mumbai local train system. According to an exclusive report which was recently published by mid-day, the interval between two trains has been reduced by 30 seconds. This means that the frequency of trains will increase, accommodating a larger number of passengers and subsequently reducing crowding in all trains.
The announcement was made by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. As per the mid-day article, Mumbai will be the first city to receive a Communications-Based Train Control or CBTC-embedded Kavach System.
This system is touted to make the local trains completely safe. It is also expected to increase the number of train services, essentially doubling them over the next three years. This is said to revolutionise train travel in the city.

As of now, the interval between every train is around three minutes. However, once the system launches, the interval will apparently be reduced to 2.5 minutes. This could make the lives of a lot of Mumbaikars easier.
Any regular Mumbai local traveller knows that the trains are almost always late. This adds to the crowding on the train. If the interval is actually reduced to 2.5 minutes and if the trains are regularly on time, it could help in significantly reducing congestion.
Do you think this will help trains be on time instead of being late by at least ten minutes almost every day? And do you think it may help in reducing the overcrowding of trains? Let us know in the comments section below!
