Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced some big plans for the Mumbai suburban railway network. While addressing a press conference via a video link from Delhi, he said that Mumbai’s suburban network will soon receive a major upgrade with new trains designed for better passenger comfort and reduced overcrowding. Mumbai Suburban To Get New-Design Trains

According to NDTV, on Monday, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that the Mumbai suburban railway would soon get new-design trains. A detailed plan for these new trains will be released soon. The new design trains will have better features and acceleration. Most importantly, it will have more oxygen content inside the trains for better ventilation systems and improved suspension for passengers’ comfort.
Ashwini Vaishnaw said that railway projects worth ₹16,400 crore are in various stages of completion for Mumbai on the Central Railway and the Western Railway. He also said the time gap between two moving local trains will be brought down to 150 seconds. Currently, the time gap is 180 seconds. Subsequently, they plan to bring it down to 120 seconds to reduce overcrowding and operate more services.

Local Trains Network To Get 300 Additional Services
The Railway Minister further mentioned that nearly 10% more or around 300 local train services will be introduced in phases following the completion of the ongoing infrastructure projects in Mumbai. This will be in addition to the 3,000 services operated daily. In his address, he said that 300 kilometres of new tracks will be laid in the city.
All these announcements were made after a whopping ₹23,778 crore budgetary allocation was made for railways in Maharashtra in the Union Budget 2025-26.
