Mumbai Metro 3 Line Sees More Than 20,000 Passengers
The much-anticipated Mumbai Metro 3 was recently inaugurated in the city. As per a report in The Economic Times, around 20,482 passengers rode the new Mumbai Aqua Line on the second day of its commercial operation. As per Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC), Mumbai’s first underground metro line witnessed a ridership of 20,482 between 6.30 AM and 9 PM on Tuesday. It was the second day of the metro’s commercial operation, but the first day of full-fledged service.
In its first phase, Mumbai Metro 3 connects BKC, one of the most luxurious business districts of India, to Aarey Colony JVLR. On Monday, the new Metro line saw a ridership of 18,015 between 11 AM and 10.30 PM. It is to be noted that this ridership is just for the operational, Phase 1 of the line. This is way less than the anticipated daily commute of over four lakh passengers, as predicted by MMRC.
Changing Mumbai’s Way Of Travel
While the first phase of the Mumbai Aqua Line is now open, there is still a long way to go for the complete line to become operational. As per MMRC’s estimate, once the entire corridor is operational, the authorities expect a daily ridership of 13 lakh passengers! In its report, MMRC mentioned that as many as 6.5 lakh vehicular trips are estimated to be slashed due to the first phase of Aqua Line. This will also help reduce road traffic by 35%.
According to MMRC’s notification, services on Mumbai Metro 3 will be operated from 6.30 AM to 10.30 PM between Monday and Saturday. On Sundays, the service will be offered between 8.30 AM and 10.30 PM.
