New steps are taken often to provide enhanced services to metro passengers. This time, an official decision has been finalised to rename different stations on Mumbai metro Line-3. The primary reasons behind this major step are to make the city’s metro system more relevant among people and to build a better connection between these stations and the communities. Names Of Many Stations Of Mumbai Metro Line-3 Will Get Changed

After receiving a request from the Government of Maharashtra, the central government decided to change the metro station names. The Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs announced the significant news on September 19, 2024.

The plan is to rename 27 metro stations on the Aqua Line. The Central Government found it important to rename some metro stations of the Metro Line-3, according to a notification published by the Gazette of India.

Some of the bustling metro stations to notice the changes are Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport T1, Aarey JVLR, Jagannath Shankar Sheth Metro, and Shitala Devi Mandir among others.

Ashwini Bhide, Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (MMRCL) Managing Director, stated that these are a few minor changes to represent the exact locations of the places, according to a report by The Free Press Journal. This is not the first time that the Government of Maharashtra has taken a step to rename stations. Previously, the government renamed multiple suburban rail’s corresponding stations.

The airport’s metro stations are now named CSMIA T1 and CSMIA T2. However, their names were International and Domestic in the 2013 notification. In addition, Bandra station is now BKC.
