Mumbai Wakes Up To Heavy Rains & Waterlogging
With continuous, heavy downpours from 1 am to 7 am on July 8, Mumbai woke up to waterlogging across the city. As per a report in NDTV, several parts of the city recorded over 300 mm of rainfall. This caused waterlogging across various parts of Mumbai leading to heavy traffic congestion. Many BEST buses have been diverted and even the local trains have been impacted. Many local trains have been cancelled on Monday as there was waterlogging on train tracks as well.
Waterlogging has been reported in areas like Worli, Kurla East, Dadar and Vidyavihar. As per a report in Hindustan Times, to avoid inconvenience to students, a holiday for the first session is declared for all BMC, government and private schools and colleges in Mumbai. Also, Mumbai University has postponed all exams of the Centre of Distance and Open Learning scheduled for the first half of Monday.
It seems the waterlogging woes of Mumbai might continue. The IMD has predicted heavy rainfall in parts of Maharashtra and Mumbai over the next three days. They have issued an orange alert for Mumbai, Thane, Palghar and the Konkan belt.
