Mumbaikars love Mumbai ki baarish! Imagine chilling by the balcony, sipping chai, and munching pakora with blissful music playing in the background. Too perfect, right? We love romanticising Mumbai rains, especially after watching movies such as Wake Up Sid and Life In A Metro. However, the reality of stepping outside is the opposite of what we see on our screens. Waterlogged streets, flooded areas, traffic congestion, and endless inconvenience are the results of the downpour in the city.
Heavy Rains Trigger Chaos All Around Mumbai
Social media is filled with pictures and videos of incessant showers flooding different areas in the city. Here are some visuals of inundated Mumbai shared by X users.
The present conditions in several parts of Mumbai look alarming. With rainwater swamping everywhere, commuting is becoming more difficult every passing day.
Roads are waterlogged, train services are disrupted, and flights have been cancelled. Heavy showers continue to affect regular public transportation operations delaying commuters’ journeys.
The India Meteorological Department has already issued a red alert for heavy rains in Mumbai. Different parts of Maharashtra are likely to receive heavy rainfall today. Unfortunately, Mumbai local train services are expected to see further delays and even cancellations at times.
A major reason for the delay is the water levels rising above the railway tracks. The concerned authorities have started working to resolve these issues and offering better experiences to commuters.
Holiday Declared For Students
It is quite a daunting task to go outside and travel somewhere with waterlogging and levels of rainwater rising in many places. Also, the red alert for heavy rainfall is indeed concerning as it may trigger present inundated conditions.
Following heavy rains in Mumbai on Monday, Tuesday has been declared a holiday for BMC, government, and private schools and colleges.
According to a report by Hindustan Times, similar weather conditions of heavy rains are likely to continue in the city till July 10. This also means problems related to traffic congestion and other transportation modes are expected to be irregular too.
Here are more videos of the flooded streets of Mumbai.
Mumbaikars, stay safe and avoid going outdoors as much as possible.
