Mumbai: Roads, Railway Stations Flooded As Rain Lashes The City; IMD Issues Red Alert

As Maharashtra welcomed an early onset of monsoon, Mumbai witnessed incessant rainfall on Monday morning. The downpour caused severe waterlogging in multiple areas, flooding in railway stations, and disruption of metro services as well.

Heavy Rains Bring Mumbai To A Standstill

As the southwest monsoon made an early onset over Mumbai on Monday, its earliest over Maharashtra in 35 years, the city came to a standstill. The intense spells of rain caused waterlogging in several low-lying areas of Mumbai and on railway tracks as well, paralysing traffic and local train services across Mumbai.

Central Railway shared that due to “heavy rains in the Mumbai suburban section”, local train services are running with “cautious speed”. Services are also being short-terminated at Kurla, Dadar and Parel due to waterlogging between Byculla-Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT). Furthermore, the Central Railway’s Up and Down Harbour Line services between Vadala Road and CSMT were temporarily suspended due to waterlogging at Masjid station.

According to a Mint report, waterlogging on roads caused traffic movement to slow down in several areas. This included areas like Andheri Subway, Avatar Singh Bedi, Freeway South Bound, Narayan Dabholakar Road, Elphinstone Bridge, Worli Naka AB Road North Bound, Band Stand Junction, JJ Bridge South Bound, Tilak Bridge (Dadar) South Bound, Hindmata Junction (Bhoiwada), King Circle Bridge (Matunga) and am Nagar Subway (Vakola) South Bound. Residents took to social media to show flooded roads, heavy traffic, and submerged railway tracks across the city.

The relentless rains in Mumbai also caused flight delays. Airlines like Air India and IndiGo issued travel advisories for flights to and from Mumbai. They have urged passengers to check the flight status of their flights and also asked them to leave early for the airport to avoid traffic jams.
