Mumbai To Get Smarter As MMRDA Collaborates With UK-Based Forum To Develop A Tech-Oriented City

The Mumbai Metropolitan Regional Development Authority or the MMRDA recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding or MoU. The MoU was signed with the World Smart Cities Forum which is based in the United Kingdom. It aims to build a hi-tech city with sustainable practices which will set new standards for urban living in the city. Here are all of the important details that you would need to know about this MoU.

According to an article which was recently published by The Times Of India or TOI, the path for the development of a third Mumbai city is already paved. It was paved mostly because of the construction of the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link or the MTHL.

The construction of the Navi Mumbai International Airport will also significantly contribute to the development of the third Mumbai. As per the article, this third Mumbai will be built on land spread across 334 sq. km.

It will be a hi-tech city which practices and is built on the principle of sustainability. It will transform the erstwhile conceptions of urban living and set new standards for it.

An MMRDA spokesperson cited in the TOI article mentioned the smart growth centre is envisioned at the MTHL Influence Area. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde was also hopeful about this move which would fulfil the dream of developing a smart growth centre.

The MoU between MMRDA and the World Smart Cities Forum was signed at the World Economic Forum 2024 which took place in Davos in Switzerland.
