The city of dreams is all set to receive an amazing Christmas present! The Mumbai Trans Harbour Link or the MTHL, which has been one of the biggest and most awaited projects of the city, is all set to open for the public on December 25. The MTHL is the longest sea bridge in the country. Here are all the details that you need to know about this much-anticipated road transport project.

Mumbai Trans Harbour Link To Open On Dec 25

According to an article recently published by Mumbai Live, on December 25, the MTHL will be thrown open for public usage. The article stated that the Mumbai Metropolitan Regional Development Association or the MMRDA was yet to make an official announcement about the same, however, sources have confirmed the news.

According to the reports cited in the article, the work of the MTHL, as of now is 97 per cent done. What is more, it also stated that out of the total of 130 CCTV poles that are to be installed, 78 are already done. The MMRDA has also completed more than half of the work required for the toll infrastructure. The inauguration of the MTHL coincides with Christmas.

It almost makes it seem like Santa Claus decided to give Mumbaikars the present that they wanted the most! One of the most salient features of the MTHL is that it is also the first road to have an Open Road Tolling or ORT system. This is in addition to it being the longest sea bridge in the country. It will facilitate a better toll collection system by making the traffic flow more smoothly.

A Great Christmas Present For Mumbaikars

This particular road transport project will improve the road connectivity in the city. It starts from Sewri in South Mumbai and ends at CHirle in the district of Raigad. As of now, the distance between these two points is a total of 52 kilometres. As per reports, the bridge has cost a whopping ₹18,000 crores to construct and will stretch across 16 kilometres on water.

In addition to this, it will also span an extra six kilometres on the ground. Reports also suggest that it will operate as many as 70,000 vehicles on a daily basis once it is open to the public. On May 24 this year, the Chief Minister of the state, Eknath Shinde, took a brief ride on the bridge in an open deck BEST bus.
