We have some good news, folks! Indian Railways may soon introduce a Duronto Express between Bengaluru and Mumbai, potentially cutting the journey time to nearly 18 hours. Bengaluru To Mumbai Duronto Express On Cards?

According to Hindustan Times, weeks after approving a bi-weekly superfast train between Bengaluru and Mumbai, the Railways are now considering running a Duronto Express service to cut travel time on one of the country’s busiest rail routes.

The new bi-weekly train (16553/16554) started on December 9, 2025, and runs between SMVT Bengaluru and Lokmanya Tilak Terminus in Mumbai. It operates from Bengaluru on Tuesdays and Saturdays and reaches Mumbai the next evening. On the return leg, it departs Mumbai on Sundays and Wednesdays. It covers the 1,209-km distance in nearly 24 hours. This has disappointed many passengers, as it is slower than the existing Udyan Express on this route.

To address this, the Railways is now considering a Duronto Express service on the route, which could reduce travel time to just 18 hours.

Possible Route, Fare & More Details

According to Times Now, the Duronto Express is expected to run between KSR Bengaluru and CSMT Mumbai, with stops at Tumakuru, Davangere, Hubballi, Belagavi, Miraj, and Pune. Unlike regular trains, Duronto Express services have fewer stops, include meals in the ticket price, and are designed for faster, long-distance travel.

While there has been no official announcement by the Railways on this route yet, initial media reports suggest that the Duronto Express on this route is expected to depart KSR Bengaluru at 4:30 PM and reach Mumbai by 10:30 AM the next day. The return journey from Mumbai may start at 3:00 PM, arriving in Bengaluru by 9:30 AM. A 3AC ticket is likely to cost around ₹2,500, making it a premium yet convenient option for passengers.
