“Gutka Brigade Showed Up,” Netizens React As Paan Stains Appear At Newly Launched Mumbai Metro Line 3

Mumbai Metro Line 3 has just become fully operational. The much-awaited metro line connects Aarey in the north to Cuffe Parade in the south. However, only a few days after its launch, one passenger shared shocking images showing paan stains and litter across several stations, a disappointing sight for many. Here’s more on this.

Paan Stains Spotted At Underground Stations Of Mumbai Metro Line 3

Mumbai Metro Line 3 (Aqua Line), one of the city’s most anticipated projects, is already stained with paan spits and littered with trash. The authorities who worked hard to design these modern, world-class stations must be equally disappointed, just like the commuters.

A post on social media has now gone viral, showing underground stations stained with paan marks. An X user posted the images and wrote, “Mumbai Metro Line 3 inaugurated and within hours, Gutkha brigade showed up. World-Class Infra, Third-World Behaviour. Don’t Spit. Don’t Litter. Respect INDIA. You can’t call yourself “Patriotic” if you spit on the very country you claim to love. Be civilised for once.”

As per a report by Mid-Day, not only paan stains but also food packets have started appearing across stations and even inside a few coaches. The CSMT subway entry has turned out to be the most littered spot on Mumbai Metro Line 3. Commuters who had waited months for this metro line’s launch are now left disappointed by how quickly some passengers have started misusing the space.

Officials And Commuters Express Disappointment

An official on duty at CSMT Metro Station told Mid-Day that they had hoped commuters would treat these world-class stations with care. Instead, litter and stains have appeared, and it’s not even been a week since the line became fully operational. One commuter said it’s not just disappointing but also disheartening. If people don’t take responsibility, this new metro line will end up looking like any neglected subway.

Many users took to social media to share their frustration. One wrote, “This will not stop unless we have a push from the govt. on this – fines, education, and campaigns.” Another added, “This isn’t just bad manners, it’s a public nuisance and public health risk. Authorities must file cases, impose fines and community service on repeat offenders. If you don’t respect public spaces, you don’t deserve to misuse them.” One user also wrote, “Charge hefty fines which will make them swallow it instead of spitting.”

This is truly disappointing! Strict action should be taken against those who litter or damage public spaces. They must be fined heavily. What are your thoughts on this? Do let us know!
