Mumbai: Jogeshwari Terminus To Open In Jan 2027; Will Connect Metro Lines 6 & 7A

We have some amazing news for metro and rail commuters in Mumbai. The upcoming Jogeshwari Terminus is being developed into a Rail-Metro hub to ensure seamless travel for daily passengers. Western Railway (WR) and the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) plan to connect rail and metro services through a dedicated pedestrian network. Here’s everything you need to know about it.

Rail-Metro Hub Planned At Jogeshwari Terminus In Mumbai

According to the Financial Express, WR and the MMRDA are planning to connect Jogeshwari Terminus with Metro Lines 6 and 7A. As part of the project, a skywalk will be built to link the upcoming terminus with Ram Mandir Railway Station, providing further access to the Goregaon Metro station.

With this, WR and MMRDA aim to enable seamless movement between long-distance trains, suburban railway services, and the Metro network. The integration is expected to reduce travel time, ease transfers, and improve last-mile connectivity for commuters.

The 15.31-km Mumbai Metro Line 6 will connect Swami Samarth Nagar and Vikhroli, significantly enhancing east-west connectivity across the city. The corridor will feature 13 stations along its route. Meanwhile, Mumbai Metro Line 7A is a 3.42-km extension of the operational Red Line (Line 7), linking Andheri East with Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport.

Opening Now Delayed To January 2027

However, it looks like Mumbaikars will have to wait a bit longer for the upcoming Jogeshwari Terminus to become operational. According to Hindustan Times, there is yet another delay on this project and it is now likely to open by January 2027. As per reports, the reason for these delays are altered terminus design and other changes on this project.

It was originally conceived as a three-platform terminus, but the plan was later expanded to include a fourth platform to accommodate growing passenger demand. The additional platform will serve as the main home platform, while the existing infrastructure is being widened to improve passenger flow and minimise congestion.

That’s why the terminus, which was initially expected to become operational in March 2025, is now likely to open by January 2027.
