This is what our roads have come to—piles of garbage, zero accountability.

As per the Reddit post by user Select-Bread2173, a concerned resident of Mumbai has expressed frustration over the condition of Behram Baug, Oshiwara. The user highlighted that heaps of garbage are now a common sight, not only along the main roads but also on the dividers. The waste, they said, includes not just daily household rubbish but also plastic waste, leftover food, and even construction debris. According to the user, this careless dumping has turned the area into a breeding ground for mosquitoes and rodents, which can pose a serious health risk with the monsoon just around the corner.

They further pointed out that the road sees many civilians daily, especially elderly residents, and called the situation both disgusting and dangerous for their health. In frustration, the user wrote, “Is the richest municipal corporation of India even aware of what’s going on? Is anyone inspecting these areas? Are there no dustbins, or is this just sheer apathy? It is 2025, and till when are we planning to struggle with the basics of roads and a proper waste management system?”

The post included multiple images of the mess and the garbage. The user also ended the post with a strong message that people also need to hold themselves responsible. They added that residents don’t even bother putting their rubbish in the bins and instead throw it straight onto the roads.

Reddit Post Sparks Online Debate

The Reddit post quickly gained attention and sparked a debate in the comments. Several users left comments on the post. One of the users said, “BMC absolutely can do something. Look at the planned campaigns other cities like Indore, Surat, and Navi Mumbai municipalities have launched to enforce a clean society.” While another added, “Saw your post at the exact moment I was passing through this specific pile of garbage, talk about timing”

This viral post brings into question the role of local authorities, who seem to be turning a blind eye to the growing waste issue on roads, even in urban areas of Mumbai. But it’s not just the authorities we should blame, but the people, too. One must act with basic civic responsibility. Disposing of garbage on the roads instead of throwing it in the dustbins can seriously pose a lot of health risks.

So, what do you think of this? Should both citizens and authorities be held equally responsible?
