Metro system is certainly one of the most convenient public transport systems in the world. Most of the countries around the world have their own set of metro lines that makes travelling easier for people there. And so people in Muscat will also be able to make use of this mode of transport. We say this because recently, the Ministry of Transport, Communication, and Information Technology reviewed the 2025 implementation plan in a meeting and discussed the achievements of 2024. Here’s all about it.

Muscat Metro Project To Begin From Sultan Haitham City

It was confirmed by His Excellency Eng. Saeed bin Hamoud bin Saeed Al Mawali, Minister of Transport, Communications & Information Technology, that the Muscat Metro project will start from Sultan Haitham City to Ruwi area. It was further confirmed by the minister that this metro line will be spanning more than 50 km and include 36 stations. As it happens, the detailed study of the Muscat Metro project will begin this year.

Moreover, His Excellency also pointed out that the logistics and communications and information technology sectors have contributed more than 2 billion Omani Rials to the GDP. This represents 8 per cent! Not to mention, investments in the sectors had reached 2.5 billion Omani Rials by the end of 2024.

More Details To Know From The 12th Media Meeting

At this point, it’s worth mentioning that the Muscat Metro project is considered to be one of the most prominent futuristic public transport projects. Back in 2023, a specialised team was formed to work on managing and following up on the project and related studies. The next steps includes appointing a project management consultant, which will be done to complete the technical requirements. As it happens, it has been accorded the top priority according to the Vision 2040 implementation.

Not only this, the development project expenditures, as discussed in the 12th media meeting also revealed that it totals up to 989 million Omani Rials. Yes, 93% of this was allocated to road works.

So with the detailed study expected to begin this year, you can soon hope for the metro development project to begin at full steam. And once this is complete, travelling is bound to be a lot easier for the people in the city.
