Start from Delhi and nearly 300 km away (a six hour journey) you will find yourself in the foothills of India’s Himalayan mountain range. You can even get there via airplane with Dehradun being the closest airport to Mussoorie. But the drive to Mussoorie lets you enjoy the extensive mountain range and the eye catching views of Haridwar, Roorkee, Doon Valley and Saharanpur.

JW Marriot Mussoorie is famous for organizing dining by the stream. The breakfast is hosted by the stream and it seems like a dream to dine by the water. The seating arrangement by the stream is a delight owing to the wonderful view of the Ganga making its way through the rocks.

Learn The Art of Walnut Plucking

The hill station of Mussoorie is famous for walnuts at JW Marriot organizes a special setting to teach the art of walnut plucking. The Brentwood Sanctuary is the expert at plucking walnuts. Bhau Singh (75) out there would be frail for his age, but he knows the art perfectly. The plucking is done by him and he has volunteers who help him out in the farm.

Rs. 200 per person for tree climbing and leisure time at the place.

Visit a Local Village, Bhatoli

For a more local experience in Mussoorie, move outside the limits of the city to a quiet village, Bhatoli. It is about 25 km away from the city. The Garhwalis are known to be extremely warm and welcoming. Corn is a staple crop here and the villagers make flour out of it after drying the corn. Fun fact: The height of the door in their homes is short to discourage a thief from breaking in.

Cook & Eat Garhwali Cuisine

You will get to know about the culture and local Garhwali cuisine. The local families will prepare their authentic Makai ki Roti along with walnut chutney and a glass of buttermilk. The villagers prepare dishes with a lot of love and affection.
