Reaching the milestone of visiting my 30th country felt like a triumph, and there was no better place for my solo trip than the enchanting Czech Republic. From the moment I set foot in Prague, I could sense the magic in the air — a city where cobblestone streets lead you through centuries of stories and where each corner holds a unique charm. I realized that this journey wasn’t just about ticking off another destination, but about truly immersing in its history, beauty, and soul. Czechia was not just my 30th country; it became a place I’ll forever hold in my heart, leaving me with memories as timeless as the city itself.

Czechia isn’t all about the usual tourist spots, it’s also about the tranquil corners far from the crowds. Thanks to a serendipitous connection, I found a corner in this gorgeous country that radiates beauty and peace, a place untouched by tourists. Thanks to a local whose quiet love for his country’s lesser-known beauty led me to a serene, tucked-away spot that felt like a well-kept secret, a place that isn’t in any guidebook. This hidden haven reminded me that sometimes, the most extraordinary travel memories are found through serendipity.

Crafting The Perfect Czchia Souvenir

Who knew wax and wicks could be this much fun? I ditched the sightseeing crowds for a hands-on soy candle-making workshop, and it was an absolute vibe. Guided by an expert crafter, I learned to melt, mix, and mould my very own candle masterpiece. The best part? Choosing my signature fragrances (spicy patchouli, balsam wood, and creme pâtisserie)— they smelled divine! The cosy studio is a creative haven, and the session left me with a custom candle and newfound skills. Forget boring souvenirs, I now have a scented memory from Prague that I literally made myself. Talk about lighting up my travel keepsakes game!

Unveiling Prague’s Majestic Gems: National Museum and Castle

Together, these landmarks paint a vivid picture of the city’s timeless charm. Exploring the National Museum felt like stepping into a treasure trove of history and culture. The grand architecture alone is awe-inspiring, but the intricate exhibits, spanning everything from natural history to Czech heritage, truly steal the show.

Later, I wandered through Prague Castle, a stunning medieval marvel perched above the city. Its Gothic spires, especially St. Vitus Cathedral, were breathtaking. Walking through the cobblestone courtyards and Golden Lane is a special memory for me. The panoramic views from the castle grounds over Prague’s red rooftops are unforgettable.

A Hidden Czech Gem and the Magic of Serendipity

The most beautiful moments of travel aren’t always the grand adventures or lavish escapes. They’re the rare, magical instances when you stumble upon a place that feels like it was made for your soul.

Thanks to Daniel, I found my favourite corner of Europe – a charming spot in the Czech Republic that radiates romance and serenity. This hidden paradise isn’t for everyone. You won’t find it in guidebooks or tourist maps. It’s the kind of place you discover through trust, serendipity, and a touch of magic. If you dream of visiting this quaint gem, you will have to earn the trust of a Czech, just as the universe miraculously arranged for me in Cambodia in October 2023.

Right under your nose, this enchanting spot is a well-guarded secret, and out of respect for Daniel’s wish, I am keeping its name a mystery. His hope to preserve its quiet charm resonates deeply with me, and I feel privileged to have experienced its beauty in solitude. He didn’t just share this treasure but created one of the most meaningful memories of my travels!

Where Locals Love to Eat & Drink in Prague

  • Střecha (for vegan food)
  • U Pinkasů (One of Prague’s most iconic beer halls, this is where Pilsner Urquell was first served in the city, just a year after the brewery’s establishment.)
  • Hany Bany (A standout among Prague’s pubs, renowned for its unique Pulp Fiction theme.)
  • Sangam Indian Restaurant and Indian By Nature (for Indian food)

Must-Taste Czech Beers

I wasn’t a beer enthusiast, but Czechia, the Beer Capital of the World, changed my perspective! Exploring the birthplace of Pilsner lager, I indulged in a variety of beers with distinct flavours. The Pilsner Nation truly lives up to its brewing legacy. My favourites include:

  • Budweiser Budvar- The only government-owned brewery in the Czech Republic, it has also been engaged in a decades-long legal battle with American Budweiser over trademark rights!
  • Pilsner Urquell- The term “Pilsner” is widely used to describe a specific type of beer, originating from the brewing technique established at this brewery in the city of Pilsen (Plzeň).
  • Staropramen- Rewards the palate with a soft malty flavour, followed by a subtle, refreshing bitterness.

Czechia, my 30th country, was pure magic—from wandering Prague’s cobblestone streets and crafting scented candles to sipping world-class beers and discovering hidden gems with Daniel’s help. As a writer, being in the land of Franz Kafka added a special touch. It wasn’t just a milestone; it was a journey of culture, serendipity, and lasting memories that will forever hold a special place in my heart.
