You can add one more destination to your 2022 bucket list as Myanmar reopens for international tourists starting April 17. The Southeast Asian nation is reopening after two years after it had shut its borders to international visitors in March 2020. The National Central Committee on Prevention, Control and Treatment of Coronavirus Disease said, “We will open all international flights on 17 April, and can fly as regularly.” The statement further said that the decision was taken to improve the tourism sector along with having a smooth trip for visitors who come to visit Myanmar.
Myanmar Grants Visa-On-Arrival To Indians
If you’re planning to fly to Myanmar, things just got easier because Myanmar is offering visa on arrival for Indians. Myanmar becomes the 42nd country to provide visa on arrival for Indian tourists. In the current scenario, Indians have to fill up a form on the Myanmar Tourism website, through which a regular tourist visa takes about 3 days to be granted and an express visa takes nearly 24 hours. But with the introduction of visa on arrival, Indians will be able to get visa on arrival at Myanmar’s Nay Pyi Taw, Yangon and Mandalay airports.
What Else?
Myanmar and India will also be entering a Land-border Crossing Agreement that will allow tourists travelling by road to enter and exit both countries through Rikhawdar-Zowkhawtar and Tamu-Moreh borders. The same visa rules will apply for the road travellers as well.
The purpose of signing the Land-border agreement with Myanmar will definitely boost the tourism for North East India as tourists will use that route to enter Myanmar.
