Nagpur Rains: Waterlogging Reported in Low-Lying Areas, Central Forces Deployed; Advisory Issued!

In the wake of the region’s nonstop rainfall, Nagpur, Maharashtra, experienced significant waterlogging. Beginning on Friday at midnight, Nagpur city saw heavy rains that flooded low-lying regions and forced authorities to take action to relocate residents to safer areas. Here’s all about Nagpur rains.

Nagpur Rains: Waterlogging In Several Areas

There was considerable waterlogging in many areas, including Canal Road in Ramdaspeth and the area around Ambajhari Lake. The meteorological service reported 106 mm of rain at Nagpur Airport up to 5.30 am. Six persons were safely rescued by NDRF during floodwater rescue operations in the city’s Ambajhari Lake region. Videos of cars and houses being drowned in water have surfaced on X (formerly Twitter).

Following the deluge of rain that pounded Nagpur, road transport has suffered significantly. According to officials, several roads and residential areas have been flooded. Additionally, teams from the State Disaster Response Force and the National Disaster Response Force are being sent out.

As a precaution, the administration on Saturday proclaimed a holiday for schools and institutions. An MLA from Nagpur and deputy chief minister, Fadnavis said on X in the morning that he was constantly keeping an eye on the city’s rainfall condition. The Deputy CM’s office has directed the police commissioner, municipal commissioner, and collector of Nagpur to immediately activate multiple teams to rescue people who are stuck.

Thunderstorms & Heavy Rainfall Expected

In the meantime, the local government relocated residents of numerous flooded regions to safer areas of the city. People have been urged by the Nagpur Municipal Corporation not to leave their homes unless for urgent tasks. Many city roads are flooded as a result of the persistent rain. In isolated locations in the Nagpur, Bhandara, and Gondia districts, moderate to severe thunderstorms with lightning are expected to persist, according to the Nagpur centre of the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

In some regions, intense rain in isolated places is also a possibility, according to the report. Many locations in the Wardha district, as well as a few spots in the Bhandara, Gondia and Chandrapur districts, are likely to have light to moderate rainfall.

People have been urged by the Nagpur Municipal Corporation to stay inside their homes unless necessary. Numerous city roadways are saturated as a result of the constant rain, it stated.
