The Minister for Road Transport & Highways, Nitin Gadkari, joined our Editor-in-Chief, Kamiya Jani, for this interesting episode of Sunday Brunch. He is fond of food, cooking, Nagpur (his hometown) and electric vehicles among other fascinating things. We visited his lovely residence in Delhi to converse about the future of Indian roadways, travel and more. We discovered that he not only plans to develop the roadways of India but also direct major food brands for unexplored products and experiments, especially with oranges!
Hailing From Nagpur, Nitin Gadkari Ordered Mother Diary To Make Orange Barfi!
We played a fun game of ‘This or That’ with Nitin where he had to choose his favourite food items. One of the options was – Santra (Orange) Barfi or Soan Papdi. The minister is fond of Santra Barfi and selected it.
This part of the game made him express his affection towards oranges. As a Nagpuri, he was bound to be in love with this fruit. This city in Maharashtra is known as the “Orange City” due to its reputation for producing the juiciest and yummiest oranges in our country.
Nitin said, “Mother Dairy ko maine [Orange Barfi] banane ke liye lagaya hai, nagpur mein.” The foodies loved this creation, and hence, there are extensive plans to sell Santra Barfi in our country. This is indeed cool, Mr. Minister!

Orange Barfi is not the only dessert you will be relishing! Minister Nitin has more plans with Nagpur’s oranges. He truly wants to create orange powder from real orange juice!
He even reached out to the assigned contractor of Santre ki Barfi in Nagpur to plan out this delicacy with real orange powder instead of an orange essence! Lastly, he added that the brand producing the original Santre ke Barfi should be from Nagpur as it is called the “Orange Capital”. Honestly, this sounds so exciting; we love this initiative!
