If you’ve been wishing to make a positive impact on the environment, Abu Dhabi has your back! The Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD) has launched an exciting wave of volunteer programmes under its ‘Naha’ platform. This initiative is all about empowering community members, especially the young and passionate, to contribute to environmental preservation in the UAE. From cleaning up beaches to building eco-awareness, EAD’s volunteer programmes are a perfect fit for eco-warriors eager to step up.

Eco-Rangers On The Rise In Abu Dhabi With Naha

One of the highlights of EAD’s initiatives is the Murshed Youth Rangers Programme, which inspires young people to take an active role in protecting nature. Sponsored by TotalEnergies, the programme recently kicked off its second phase, where young volunteers logged over 300 hours at Jubail Mangrove Park and even assisted in hosting the 12th World Environmental Education Congress. To foster teamwork, the youth rangers joined a nature retreat at Al Wathba Wetland Reserve, diving into activities like treasure hunts and guided tours. The programme provides a hands-on approach to understanding what it means to be an eco-ranger and a true guardian of nature.

For adults who love nature and want to make a difference, the Green Citizen Programme offers a platform to help preserve Abu Dhabi’s natural heritage. This programme welcomes volunteers from all walks of life to take part in clean-ups and virtual awareness sessions, focusing on both individual and community contributions to a greener future. For the eco-professionals, EAD’s Green Experts Programme provides a unique opportunity to connect with a global network of environmental specialists. Experts can exchange ideas through monthly bulletins, participate in lectures, and even join the “Ask an Expert” session.

Youth-Led Change Through The Green Youth Majlis

Empowering youth aged 18-35, the Green Youth Majlis serves as a council for young environmental advocates to come together and brainstorm solutions for the region’s environmental challenges. This council, founded under the Sustainable Universities Initiative, gathers quarterly to encourage open dialogue and innovation in tackling issues such as plastic waste. With over 650 active members, the Green Youth Majlis has become a dynamic forum, with participants logging over 970 hours of environmental work.
