In an attempt to draw in foreign investment, Namibia will begin issuing visas upon arrival to visitors and foreign investors from 33 nations starting April 1. The goal of the action is to promote both business and pleasure travel while lowering administrative barriers. However, this visa relaxation does not apply to India.
Why Is Namibia Not Relaxing Visas For India?
The number of foreign visitors to Namibia increased significantly from 461,027 in 2022 to 863,872 in 2023. South Africa, Angola, Germany, Zambia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, the United States, the United Kingdom, France, and the Netherlands were among the top 10 tourism markets. They did not include India.
Mohak Nahta, CEO of Atlys, told Business Standard that Namibia remains largely undiscovered by Indian travellers due to low awareness, lack of direct flights, long travel times, and high costs comparable to Europe. These factors make it a less appealing option compared to more familiar and budget-friendly destinations.
Mohak Nahta highlighted that the lack of direct flights between India and Namibia results in long travel times of 40 to 50 hours with stopovers. While the visa process is manageable with proper planning, it still requires document submission and approval. He suggested that improving awareness of Namibia’s attractions and simplifying the visa process could boost Indian tourism in Namibia.

Tourism In Namibia
Namibia’s Minister of Home Affairs, Albert Kawana, told Business Standard that the country’s new online visa system will streamline arrivals by reducing congestion at borders. Travellers can now apply for visas online before departure, eliminating the need for long queues at entry points.
Namibia is a fascinating place to visit because of its breathtaking scenery, varied wildlife, and rich cultural legacy. For adventurers and nature lovers alike, the nation provides stunning natural beauty and one-of-a-kind experiences, from the majestic Skeleton Coast to the expansive grasslands of Etosha National Park and the towering sand dunes of Sossusvlei. Elephants, lions, rhinos, and other species can be seen in their native settings thanks to its well-preserved ecosystems, which make it a popular destination for safaris.

The application procedure is the same for nations that are not eligible for visas upon arrival. Before entering Namibia, these travellers must submit an application in advance through the Ministry’s web portal and wait for approval. Indian nationals who want to travel to Namibia must pay N$1,600 (about ₹7,500) for a visa.
