The much-awaited expansion of the Namma Metro network from Bengaluru to Tumakuru is moving closer to reality. The proposed 56.6 km line, which will feature 26 new stations, is part of a long-term vision to improve connectivity between the capital city and the fast-developing Tumakuru region. With the Detailed Project Report (DPR) already submitted to the Karnataka government, the project now awaits formal approval before it moves into the execution phase. The extension is expected to not only reduce traffic congestion on the Tumakuru-Bengaluru route but also offer a sustainable and efficient mode of daily transport.

According to OneIndia, the new metro line will begin at Madavara (BIEC) and conclude at Tumakuru’s Shira Gate. The stretch will feature 26 stations along the way, designed to ease commuting challenges and support the region’s rapid urbanisation. Aarvee Associates Architects Engineers & Consultants Pvt. Ltd. will conduct a feasibility study, assessing ridership, technical design, cost estimates, and construction challenges.
This corridor forms a natural extension of the Green Line and will significantly decongest arterial roads. The planners aim to integrate it seamlessly with the existing network to enable smooth transfers for passengers. Once operational, the Bengaluru–Tumakuru Namma Metro extension is expected to transform daily travel for thousands of commuters who currently rely on road transport.
Economic Growth And Environmental Benefits
As reported by The Hindu, the metro corridor will play a crucial role in promoting economic activity along its route. Improved accessibility will benefit local businesses, residential developments, and industrial zones. The route also passes key areas like the Bangalore International Exhibition Centre (BIEC), further supporting business and tourism-related travel.
Additionally, the metro line offers an eco-friendly alternative to traditional road transport. By encouraging public transit, the extension could significantly reduce carbon emissions and vehicular congestion on the busy Tumakuru Road. This aligns with Karnataka’s broader goal to build sustainable urban infrastructure.
Government Support And The Road Ahead
The Karnataka government has shown strong interest in pushing the project forward. As mentioned by OneIndia, the authorities plan to implement the Bengaluru–Tumakuru Namma Metro extension under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model to ensure faster execution and efficient resource utilisation.

The DPR has been submitted and is now under review by the state government. Once it receives clearance at both the state and central levels, construction is expected to begin. This project represents a major step in reshaping regional transport and stands to become a vital link in Karnataka’s metro network.
