However, in the recent past, Goa has garnered a reputation for being quite expensive and a number of people have complained about things like extortionate cab fares, overcrowded destinations and substandard stay options. This has led to a significant decline in tourism in Goa. A netizen speculated reasons for this downfall and the comments section was quick to respond.

A user took to X (formerly known as Twitter) and speculated reasons for the decline in tourism in Goa. The person mentioned a total of 13 reasons as to why they think tourism is declining. The reasons included factors like high cab fares, expensive stay options, and costly food.
One of the reasons mentioned was also what the post dubbed “rude Goans.” These are apparently the locals who don’t like tourists. Other reasons include narrow roads and poor traffic management all of which culminate in time wasted on the road.
Some of the points also mentioned how many parts of Goa sell sub-standard alcohol and have poor maintenance at beach entry points. While there were many points with which a number of people agreed, there were also points that many people disagreed with.

For instance, a number of commenters agreed that high cab fares significantly mar the experience of travelling in the state. A number of people also agreed that many tourist hotspots are poorly maintained or expensive or both.
Some people also mentioned that a trip to Sri Lanka or Thailand has become cheaper than visiting Goa. One commenter said that police harassment has also become quite common in the state, which is concerning to hear.
There were a few comments that also blamed tourists for littering at famous tourist spots and urged the authorities to do better.
